DESCRIPTION
This is work determining tax liability or collecting taxes from individuals or business firms according to prescribed laws and regulations.
Some positions in this occupation may be responsible for coordinating work and supervising employees.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The incumbent in this position is expected to:

Contact taxpayers to obtain payments of fees, taxes, penalty, and interest by field visit and/or on the telephone.
Contact and correspond with taxpayers and/or personal representatives to obtain information and resolve discrepancies on tax returns, licensing and registration applications in order to make final determination.
Resolve taxpayer inquiries regarding tax liabilities determined through departmental billings, final audit assessments and return items.
Provide review and examination of tax returns, licensing and/or registration applications where additional research and comprehensive analysis is necessary to make final determinations.
Identify property subject to levy by conducting physical inventories.
Correct or recommend corrective action on erroneous billings.
Compromise or recommend compromise of penalty and/or interest.
Provide education and registration activities to assure past and future compliance with tax laws administered by the Department.
Recommend and assist in developing process improvements for business processes within the guidelines of GTA's Strategic Plan.
Collect taxes for special events (fairs, sidewalk art shows, carnivals, etc.) as needed or directed by supervisor.
Perform related work as required.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
